Revised Mooring Assignments

8/2/2022

⛵ Updated again, 8/2/22 -- assignments have been revised.

--
An email was sent with 2022 assignments for FS moorings, drysail, and lifts.  The file is also here on the website.  Click here to go to the file.

It has been an wonderful sailing season at Deep Creek Lake!  I hope everyone has been able to get out on the water and enjoy!

There have been some updates to the assignments for Flying Scot moorings, lifts, and drysail spots.  It is exciting to have some new boats join the fleet and there are some boats that have moved to a lift.  Attached is the current picture for what boat lives where.   If this chart does not reflect actually where your boat sleeps, please let me know!  And if you have any requests for changes in the future, please send me an email before the end of the season.

There is increased wave action on the lake so keeping an eye on your boat is important. Please remember to regularly check that your Flying Scot does not have much water in the bilge, your plug is secure, your cover is firmly attached, and  your mooring line hooks are secure and the line intact..

Also please note that the "dinghy' has damage to the stern bumper and the engine cover.  Please, when using the dinghy, do not approach the dock in reverse (stern toward dock).  Additionally, when securing the boat to dock at the end of use, please make sure it is not going to hit any other boats especially if there is wave action.

Hope to see you out sailing!

Updated Pet Guidance
Based on feedback from the membership, your Board of Governors has updated our pet policy (Operating Procedures section 1.8) to allow pets on the lower wooden deck.  This will allow our pet owner members to enjoy the club more fully.  Pets are not allowed on the upper deck or in the pavilion.  Please note that none of the other requirements of this policy have changed including keeping your pet on a leash and under control and cleaning up after your pet.  The full text of the new policy is below.

New policy:

1.8 Pets
Pets are permitted only on grassy area, hardscape, docks and the lower deck outdoors.  Pets on Association grounds must be kept on leash at all times.  Owners must assume full responsibility for care, control of and cleaning up after their pets.

The Deep Creek Lake Sailing Association webstore is OPEN NOW - until Thursday, June 2nd at midnight!

Please visit https://deep-creek-gear.itemorder.com/ and order your “Sailing Merch” for the summer sailing season.

The webstore includes different clothing options with our yacht club burgee embroidered on each one, including t shirts, hats, shorts and more) but does not include the annual club participation t-shirts.

Once the webstore closes on June 2nd, the vendor will need a few weeks to produce all clothing and drop ship to each buyer.

Please consider visiting the webstore. The current plan is to have two or three stores with different items throughout the year.

This is a great opportunity to celebrate our club and display our Turkey Neck Yacht Club Pride!

⛵ Willie Clayton and Mike Groves will be managing the club this year.

Willie and Mike, both now widowed, met in 2015 at the Ocala Boat Club in Ocala Florida, where they both live and enjoy boating.
Willie, and her former husband Don, managed Deep Creek Lake Yacht Club at Turkey Neck over many different years until Don's passing in 2013. Willie came back a couple times after that, managing by herself.
Mike is a past Commodore of the Ocala Boat Club from 2017-2019. He is a Vietnam Veteran and retired after 27 years from the Marine Corps
Reserve as a Master Gunnery Sargent. Mike's full time job was with the City of Ocala, where he worked as a Civil Engineer and retired after 43
years. He was instrumental in designing and overseeing the expansion of the City’s water and sewer systems.

Please note that it is very important to have this address (204 Yacht Club Rd., off of Turkey Neck) handy in case of emergency.
When dialing 911 for help at the club, make sure you mention that we are the Sailing Club off of Turkey Neck Road to prevent EMS from going to the wrong club.  It may also help to note that they will pass both Ezra Savage Road and Skipjack Lane before arriving at Yacht Club Road.
43880A and 43880B are the club's dock numbers, in case of an emergency on the water. 9-1-1 can alert DNR water dispatch.
